The yields of r - process elements and chemical evolution of the Galaxy

چکیده
The supernova yields of r-process elements are obtained as a function of the mass of their progenitor stars from the abundance patterns of extremely metalpoor stars on the left-side [Ba/Mg]-[Mg/H] boundary with a procedure proposed by Tsujimoto and Shigeyama. The ejected masses of r-process elements associated with stars of progenitor massMms ≤ 18M⊙ are infertile sources and the SNe II with 20M⊙ ≤ Mms ≤ 40M⊙are the dominant source of r-process nucleosynthesis in the Galaxy. The ratio of these stars 20M⊙ ≤ Mms ≤ 40M⊙ with compared to the all massive stars is about ∼18%. In this paper, we present a simple model that describes a star’s [r/Fe] in terms of the nucleosynthesis yields of r-process elements and the number of SN II explosions. Combined the r-process yields obtained by our procedure with the scatter model of the Galactic halo, the observed abundance patterns of the metal-poor stars can be well reproduced.

Galactic chemical evolution of heavy elements: from Barium to Europium
We follow the chemical evolution of the Galaxy for elements from Ba to Eu, using an evolutionary model suitable to reproduce a large set of Galactic (local and non local) and extragalactic constraints. Input stellar yields for neutron-rich nuclei have been separated into their s-process and r-process components. The production of s-process elements in thermally pulsing asymptotic giant branch s...

baryonic matter distribution in the large-scale structures is one of the main questions in cosmology. This distribution can provide valuable information regarding the processes of galaxy formation and evolution. On the other hand, the missing baryon problem is still under debate. One of the most important cosmological structures for studying the rate and the distribution of the baryons is gal...
متن کاملYields of Massive Stars and their Role in Galactic Chemical Evolution Studies
We review the yields of intermediate mass elements (from C to Zn) from massive stars and their associated uncertainties, in the light of recent theoretical results. We consider the role of those yields for our understanding of the chemical evolution of the solar neighbourhood and of the halo of our Galaxy. Current yields reproduce in a satisfactory way the solar system composition, but several ...
متن کاملPulsating red giant and supergiant stars in the Local Group dwarf galaxy Andromeda I
We have conducted an optical long-term monitoring survey of the majority of dwarf galaxies in the Local Group, with the Isaac Newton Telescope (INT), to identify the long period variable (LPV) stars. LPV stars vary on timescales of months to years, and reach the largest amplitudes of their brightness variations at optical wavelengths, due to the changing temperature. They trace stellar populati...
متن کاملR-process Abundance Signatures
Abundance observations indicate the presence of rapid-neutron capture (i.e., rprocess) elements in old Galactic halo and globular cluster stars. These observations demonstrate that the earliest generations of stars in the Galaxy, responsible for neutron-capture synthesis and the progenitors of the halo stars, were rapidly evolving. Abundance comparisons among large numbers of stars provide clue...
